Player of the Week: Michael New

Milton Keynes College’s Michael New has become the third player to win EABL Player of the Week honours twice, after winning the award for games played on the week beginning 9th December 2013.

New had 30 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists, going 8/15 from the field and 11/13 at the line as Milton Keynes College got a 94-83 win over All Saints Academy.

“The game against All Saints was a tough game, they have some great shooters,” said New. “I felt that our main source of offence came from inside the paint, where we were able to get their small squad into early foul trouble. Also, our defence and creating fast breaks was a major contribution down the stretch helping us finish the game.

“We are a new squad this year, having only five A-team players from last year we had a shaky start but now we have gelled and we are in our groove playing some good basketball.”

New is now averaging 29 points, good for second in the league, 10.8 rebounds (8th) and 4 assists per game, shooting 68% from inside the arc (9th), and 84% at the line (8th).

Milton Keynes improved to 5-1, in second place in the All Midlands Conference..
