Player of the Week: Tyler Russell

Canterbury High School’s Tyler Russell has been named EABL Player of the Week for games played during the week of the 13th January 2014.

Russell finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and led a key defensive effort that saw Canterbury upset Copleston High School with a 65-58 victory.

“We finally played well together as a team and with each other,” said Russell of the game. “We dug in on defence and did a great job of stopping Luke (Mascall-Wright, EABL leading scorer).

“My teammates really stepped up in the first quarter which gave us confidence early on.”

Through eight games, the 6’0″ point guard is averaging 22.0ppg, good for sixth in the league, 6.0rpg and 4.8apg (ninth in the league), whilst shooting 46% from beyond the arc and 86% at the line (fifth).

With the win Canterbury improved to 3-5, sitting in seventh place in the South East Conference..
