Player of the Week: Sam Newman

Copleston High School’s Sam Newman has been named EABL Player of the Week for games played during Week 2 of the 2014-15 EABL season, beginning September 22 2014.

Newman had an EABL record 51 points, as Copleston got a 100-29 win over Northfleet Tech in their debut game of the season.

|The game was a good start to the year, it gave us a chance to see what the new guys coming up were able to give us and they showed they’re here to play,” Newman said.

“Early in I could feel that I was having one of those games, I didn’t go out for it but the team adjusted really well to how I was playing and fed me the ball very well.”

The 6’3″ guard, known more for his playmaking skills than his scoring, had the hot hand early and didn’t cool down in his thirty-four minutes of play.

He went 21 from 31 from the field, including four three-pointers, while also adding four assists and six steals for an efficiency rating of fifty-three.

“Sam’s worked very hard on his game all summer,” said Copleston High School Head Coach Nick Drane.

“He’s committed to his development and has the tools to be a good player. When a guy is as hot as he was today it’s hard to not just let him go.”

Copleston will look to build on their Week 1 win when they take on Oaklands College next week.
