Basketball England to Stream Academy Finals Through UNILAD Partnership
- Updated: March 28, 2017

Basketball England has agreed a pilot partnership agreement with UNILAD Sport to stream this Wednesday’s Academy Basketball League (ABL, EABL & WEABL) finals at Leicester Arena live on the latter organisation’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/uniladfootball).
In another encouraging move designed to test the appetite – and market – for English basketball games streamed live on social media platforms, all three crunch showdowns will now reach a potential audience of more than 750,000 people on the UNILAD Sport Facebook page.
The EABL clash meanwhile will also be shared through the main UNILAD Facebook page, which currently has in excess of 27 million fans on Facebook and reaches one billion people every week.
“The opportunity to stream the Academy League Finals games through UNILAD will provide our top level of junior basketball in the country with exposure to prospectively 27 million people,” commented Charlie Ford, Basketball England’s Education and Satellite Clubs Manager.
“The very nature of basketball, with its constantly fast-paced action, lends itself nicely to social media viewing and I hope this pilot leads to further opportunities for basketball to reach an even wider audience.”
UNILAD’s Head of Live Sports Rights, Ed Dowdell, said: “We are delighted to be working with Basketball England to bring these matches to a global audience and showcase the strength of basketball in England.
“Bringing the games online fits really well with the culture of the sport and we’re so excited to try and help increase of basketball in this country like never before.”
The full schedule for the event taking place on Wednesday March 29 is as follows:
1pm: Academy Basketball League (ABL) Final.
3pm: Women’s Elite Academy Basketball League (WEABL) Final.
5:30pm: Elite Academy Basketball League (EABL) Final.
To keep up to date with the Academy Leagues through to the culmination of the season, visit: EABL.org, WEABL.org and EABL.org/abl.
UNILAD was the most engaged, and viewed, publisher last year, with 25 billion video views, one billion engagements and an equal, 50/50 audience split between males and females.
The Loughborough vs Durham BUCS final last Wednesday attracted more than 48,000 views on the UNILAD Sport Facebook page despite there being no prior publicity of the event being live streamed in the build-up to it.
