EABL Week 1 Round Up

The 2017-18 EABL season is finally upon us – check out everything that happened in an action packed Week 1!

East Conference

In the East, Barking Abbey began the defence of their title with a 61-77 road win over Oaklands College. Ade Adebayo scored 21 points to lead four players in double figures for BA.

Canterbury High School jumped out to a big early lead before holding a furious late rally from City of London Academy to secure a 67-63 victory. Jonathan Brown top scored for Canterbury with 18 points, supported by Tune Oyerinde with 17.

It was a similar scoreline in Ipswich, as John Madejski Academy stole one on the road with a 67-64 win over Copleston Sixth Form. Alex Drincic led a balance attacked for JMA with 16 points, as they overcame a monster 29-point, 10-rebound double double from Copleston’s Jonny Hall.

Itchen College dominated inside to get an 86-65 road win over BHASVIC. Big men Matt Hughes (31 points, 11 rebounds) and and Ashley Briggs (20 points, 11 rebounds) combined for 51 points and 22 rebounds to see Itchen through.

West Conference

In the West, last year’s runners up Charnwood College picked up a 72-54 win on the road at SGS College. Sesan Russell was the only player to reach double figures for Charnwood, registering 19 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. AJ Edu continued where he left off last season with SGS, finishing with 17 points, 13 rebounds 3 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks.

Loreto protected home court with a 73-66 victory over Derby College/Noel Baker School, behind a 28 point, 9 rebound outing from Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo, as he went head to head with Leighton Elliott-Sewell, who registered 22 points.

Finally, BMET James Watt College dominated Allerton with an 86-33 rout on the road behind George Iliev’s 19 points and 15 rebounds, and 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists from David Stevic.
