Loreto Magic Basketball Academy’s Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo has been named the EABL Player of the Week for Week 1 of the 2017-18 season.

Emeka-Anyakwo went 11 of 15 from the floor for an efficient 28 points, adding 8 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.

He knocked down 3 of his 5 attempts from beyond the arc, and all 3 free throw attempts, whilst helping Loreto to a 73-66 opening win over Derby College/Noel Baker School.

“It’s always a special feeling to be recognised for the work you put in so I’m grateful to the league, the coaching staff at Loreto and all my teammates for making this achievement possible,” Emeka-Anyakwo commented.

“I wouldn’t have been able to have the game I did if it wasn’t for my team mates unselfish play and recognising I had the hot hand.”

Head Coach Peter Paraskeva added:

“Arinze is one of those high character guys and receiving this award is a testament to the hard work he put in during the summer months.

“Arinze was known for his defence and ability on the boards but his offensive game has come on dramatically in the last 4-6 months, especially his jump shot and perimeter play. I look forward to seeing his progression over the course of the season.”
