Charnwood College claimed the 2018 EABL 3×3 National Championship after defeating Myerscough 19-15 in the final on Wednesday afternoon at Leicester Arena, Leicester.

Sesan Russell had 9 points to lead his squad, as Charnwood did the double, also winning the WEABL 3×3 title.

“It was a great day for our programme,” Charnwood Head Coach Will Maynard said.

“They did themselves proud in a very well ran event. The boys played with heart and competed all the way through to come away with the championship. Seeing so many young talented players in the same gym is special, and one of the reasons why basketball in this country continues to grow.”

Charnwood went undefeated on the day at 3-0, also taking down Myerscough in their opening pool game, 18-7 behind seven points from Hosana Kitenge, before escaping Barking Abbey by one, 14-13 (Sesan Russell led with 7), and then knocking out Loreto 21-10 in the semi with 8-a-piece from Morgan Carter and Hosana Kitenge.

Charnwood forward Carter commented:

“Going into the Finals we knew we had a strong team and we set some goals, and we achieved them. Feels good to win, now we have to focus on the rest of the EABL season and do what we know we can do.”

“I feel that as a team we have improved and matured since the last 3×3 meet, and definitely heading in the right direction,” Russell added.
