Week 3 Preview – Northern Conference

Newcastle Eagles

Things are beginning to take shape in the Northern Conference as we move into week 3 of the regular season. Every team in Conference has now played at least one game, with the exception of Charnwood who get their campaign underway next week. There’s a pair games in the North this week, so let’s take a look at the match ups on offer.

Myerscough College (1-0) v Derby Trailblazers Academy (1-0)

As a pair of teams that finished in the top 3 of the Northern Conference last season, both Myerscough and Derby know what is required to make the post season. Both teams are coming off solid victories from a week ago, Myerscough went to Newcastle and secured a 90-50 win, whilst the Trailblazers beat Sheffield 115-90.

Derby’s Blake Bowman enjoyed 33 points and nine boards last week, he’s one to watch out for here. Myerscough pushed four different players into double digits on the score board in the North East, they have some real depth to their roster this season.

SGS College (0-2) v Newcastle Eagles Academy (0-2)

The Eagles embark on the sizeable road trip to South Gloucestershire knowing that one of the teams involved tomorrow will be able to shift the zero currently resting in their win column.

Despite their slow start to the season, 6’4″ wing Sauveur Kande (pictured) has been a real bright spot for Newcastle, the talented shooter currently averages 15 points and eight rebounds a game. Likewise, SGS guard Marvin Dinnall has been hot to begin the year, dropping a team high 18ppg so far.

Newcastle would love to repeat last season’s success in this fixture, no doubt taking three points back up the country makes the drive feel just that little bit shorter.
