Week 10 Preview – Southern Conference

Deng Camp

The top two and bottom two in the Southern Conference both meet tomorrow, with two other games filling up the four game schedule.

Barking Abbey (6-0) v John Madejski Academy (6-0)

Only one side can remain unbeaten as the two teams in the Conference yet to lose meet tomorrow in East London.

Barking have conceded the fewest points in the South this season, allowing a stingy 49.8 points per game. Offensively they’ve been in tune, with Veron Eze (18.8ppg, Sam Alajiki (9.4ppg) and Chris Feeney (10.5ppg) all producing through six games.

JMA have been good value for their spotless start to the season, though this is arguably the biggest test of their campaign to date. If the Rockets are going to pull off a road upset, David Chive (19.0ppg) and Sam Grant (16.0ppg) are both likely to feature heavily.

Copleston High School (4-3) v Itchen College (1-4)

Copleston are 2-0 since the return of talismanic forward Ethan Price, and although Itchen picked up their first win of the season last week, the Suffolk side should be too much for their 6th place opponents.

Averaging 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, Price is already causing teams problems whilst opening up further opportunities for the dangerous Jacob Morgan and Ben Winter.

That trio may be too much for Itchen to handle, though they can still look to continue improving even if the final result doesn’t go in their favour tomorrow. Guard Taiga Forster currently averages 15.2ppg, he’s having a solid season despite Itchen’s struggles.

BHASVIC (1-4) v City of London Academy (4-2)

Four wins in a row have vaulted CoLA up the standings into a share of 3rd place, level on 12 points with Copleston and Canterbury.

That streak could well continue against BHASVIC tomorrow as the South coast side have struggled so far this season, with a lone win against USP College to their name at present.

Oscar Leigh-Hales is a previous EABL Player of the Week and averages a team high 13.8ppg for CoLA, whilst the BHASVIC offence is paced by Josh Last. He’s putting up 15.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest right now.

USP College (0-6) v Oaklands College (0-5)

In a battle of the winless teams in the South, one side will win tomorrow and snap their losing streak.

No team in the Southern Conference averages fewer points on offence than Oaklands at 58.6ppg, but no team allows more points per game than USP at 93.5. Which unit will triumph over the other tomorrow remains to be seen, but the contest could well be an even one.

Despite their record, Toby Gastaldi-Davies remains a solid weapon for the Wolves, averaging 14 points a game. Likewise, Demilola Adeyeye (15.6ppg) and Joe Dunbar (15.2ppg, 9.6rpg) both excel for USP.
