EABL Player of Week 14 – Taiga Forster

In a must win game for Itchen, talented guard Taiga Forster stood tall and delivered a performance worthy of EABL Player of the Week honours.

After a slow start to the season, Coach Guymon’s side needed to pick up points quickly to keep their playoff hopes alive, starting with a home tie against 4th place Canterbury. Although the hosts had to dig deep to do it, they secured an all important 89-80 win with Forster a key to the success.

The 6’0″ guard finished with a game high 28 points, splashing seven 3 pointers to repeatedly swing the momentum of the game in Itchen’s favour. Forster eventually shot 9/14 from the floor in the contest, adding six rebounds, two assists and two steals to his points haul for a 29 efficiency rating.

“Of course winning this award is a blessing and something I take pride in,” said Forster.

“However, coming out with a win against a well coached and organised team such as Canterbury was more important to me.

“Our coaches emphasised how important this game was for us and we had a good two weeks preparation in order to do so. I believe my teammates and myself had a really good game and that performance is definitely something we can use to catapult us the rest of our season.”

“Taiga has been an influential part of our offence so far this season and has been working tirelessly to expand his game,” added head coach Matt Guymon.

“He shot the ball extremely well against Canterbury and this was a key factor in the guys coming away with the victory.”
