EABL Player of Week 18 – Ben Winter

Playing in his final home game for Copleston, Ben Winter left it all out on the court and has been named our EABL Player of the Week.

Copleston locked up the #3 seed in the Southern Conference following a 79-57 win over Canterbury, with Winter playing a starring role.

A 22 point, 10 rebound double-double was a good day’s work for the guard, who also added four assists and a pair of steals for a final efficiency rating of 30.

“I am really happy to win this award, especially as it was my last home game for the academy,” said Winter.

“We knew we had to win to secure the third seed. As a team we played well and I hope we can continue this into the playoffs.”

Copleston head coach Nick Drane added: “This is great! Ben has been right the way through the Ipswich pathway, from primary school, to the club, to the academy and senior level – he’s been one of the best and most talented guards we’ve ever had.

“He’s had three outstanding seasons in the EABL, often carrying us when we’ve been undermanned, this is great recognition.

“We lost an All-EABL player in the offseason, and then started this season with Jacob missing the first two games, and Ethan missing the first five. Ben put us on his shoulders and kept us in the fight meaning when we got back to full strength, we could make this push for the playoffs, something we haven’t been able to do for a few seasons. He has been awesome all season.”
