Game Day Recap – Week 18

With most teams down to their final few games of the season, there were some key results in week 18 to help shape both conferences.

In the North, Manchester Magic Academy gave their hopes of securing a playoff spot a huge boost after an impressive 85-82 road win against Derby Trailblazers Academy. The results puts both teams at 7-4 on the season, creating an exciting battle for the #3 seed down the stretch.

Derby’s loss to Manchester allowed Charnwood to tighten their grip on the #2 seed, with a 109-63 win against SGS College further strengthening their cause. Greg Durand had 18 points for the Riders, whilst Eoin Goring scored 11 for SGS.

James Watt College did all they could to keep the post season pressure on Manchester and Derby, beating Newcastle 90-61 in the North East. The win takes JWC’s record back to .500 at 6-6 with two games remaining this season, including a crunch match up with Derby next week.

In the Southern Conference, Copleston enjoyed a successful final home game of the regular season as they beat Canterbury Academy 79-57. In his last ever home tie for Copleston, Ben Winter led all scorers with 22 points with the hosts now locked in as the Conference’s #3 seed for the playoffs.

Itchen College continued their recent good form with a dominant 102-56 victory against Oaklands College. Former EABL Player of the Week Taiga Forster enjoyed 26 points for Itchen, with Oliver Wright top scoring for the visitors on 14.

Copleston’s finishing position was confirmed by John Madejski Academy’s 97-81 win over BHASVIC, with JMA looking likely to be the #2 seed in the conference barring a late collapse from unbeaten leaders Barking.

Finally, it was a 14th straight defeat for USP College as the Conference’s bottom side lost 70-55 at home to City of London Academy, who keep up the pressure on Canterbury in the race for the 4th and final playoff spot.

We’ll have a full report for all week 18’s games tomorrow afternoon.
