Week 15 Preview – Northern Conference

Judie Tingle

The EABL is back for 2020 with five games tomorrow, two of which are hosted in the Northern Conference.

SGS College (3-7) v Derby Trailblazers Academy (6-2)

SGS College ended 2019 with a win over Newcastle and a narrow three point loss to 4th place James Watt, showing the programme is certainly on an upward trend heading into 2020.

Forward Finlay Woodward enjoyed a productive first half of the season, averaging a double-double of 12.4ppg and 11.0rpg. Add in Marvin Dinnall’s 16.9ppg and the duo have been a solid threat for SGS in 2019/20.

Derby saw off tomorrow’s opponent in a high scoring contest back in October and will no doubt fancy themselves to do the same again here. Blake Bowman dropped an impressive 38 points in that early season match up, including some spectacular plays around the rim. For an SGS side that gives up over 80 points a game, Bowman isn’t the sort of player you want to be facing.

Myerscough College (9-0) v The Sheffield College (2-8)

Myerscough prepare for their all important game with Charnwood with what should be a fairly routine game against a Sheffield College team that has won just twice so far this season.

The North West side handled Sheffield fairly comfortably in South Yorkshire back in October, with Lewis McGlasson, Amari Williams and Mikey Irvine combining to do the damage on offence. All three players have continued that form in the rest of Myerscough’s schedule, and that’s without even adding in the talents of players like Bradley Kaboza and Franklin Agu.

All things considered, it could be difficult for Sheffield to keep up with a deep and talented Myerscough roster, but that’s not to say they can’t take positives out of tomorrow’s game. Getting Tom Morey going in 2020 will be a priority, the 6’3″ guard averaged 17.8ppg across Sheffield’s opening 10 games. Continuing that scoring will be a big key to coach Connor’s team picking up more wins the rest of the way, even if a W proves elusive tomorrow.
