Derby College Trailblazers 109-105 The Sheffield College

There was a Friday night thriller in Derby’s home opener as the hosts edged The Sheffield College 109-105.

In an entertaining game regardless of your allegiance, Blake Bowman’s 22 points ended up pushing the Trailblazers ahead as they claimed their first win of the summer.

Sheffield were looking to build on the week one victory over SGS but solid performances from Mahamud Ibrahim (27pts), Jamie McGrail (24pts) and Hensy Sako (22pts) wouldn’t be enough.

James Watt College-BMet 82-56 SGS College

James Watt started their Showcase with a win as they beat SGS College 82-56.

After beginning the game quickly behind a 6-0 run, the West Midlands’ programme turned up the heat on defence thanks in part to the efforts of Josh Ijeh.

The talented forward and his team mates made SGS’ task more and more difficult, with a first half deficit only growing after the break as JWC closed in on a comfortable victory.

Ijeh eventually finished on a game-high 25 points, with Sam Cheshire coming alive in the second half to cap off his own 24 point effort.

Nassim Ladjimi and Jayden Edwards led the way for SGS with 11 points apiece.

Charnwood College Riders 80-64 Manchester Magic Academy

Manchester born guard and former Magic prospect Greg Wild came back to haunt his old side yesterday, helping Charnwood to an 80-64 W.

Wild enjoyed another productive afternoon as he top scored for the hosts on 30 points, following up on a 26 point outing from week one.

Moving into the lead inside the first quarter, the Charnwood advantage passed into double digits before half time to set the Riders on their way to victory.

Malachi Boakye-Yiadon provided the main source of resistance for this visitors with 19 points, and Elgin Govan had 14.

John Madejski Academy 99-75 Oaklands College

The opening game of the week saw JMA continue their good form with a healthy 99-75 victory over Oaklands.

Following up on a 99-66 win last week, the Rockets once again flirted with the century mark on offence before falling just short, with Sam Grant and Jacob Taitte (19pts) plus Marcus King-Danchie and Kivuvu Live (16pts) all playing well.

Oaklands enjoyed 17 points from Oliver Wright and Kobe Fichardo, Kane Daley and Nick Powdrell all made it to double digits with 10, but it wouldn’t be enough to prevent the Wolves from slipping to a second successive defeat.

Copleston High School 89-93 City of London Academy (After 1OT)

It took a period of overtime to split Copleston and CoLA, but the visitors eventually came out on top 93-89.

Jacob Morgan and Ethan Price both put up 22 points as they tried to push the hosts to victory, but the Suffolk side would ultimately fall just short.

Toibu Lawal (21pts) was the leading scorer for CoLA, who grabbed their first win of the Showcase here.

Kavell Hawes (18pts), Andre Parker and Christian Adun (14pts) all played well in support.
