Summer Showcase – week 3 preview

The EABL Summer Showcase is moving on quickly, with 11 games already completed and the competition’s first bubble event on this horizon for this weekend.

There’s another six games coming up, with three games tomorrow and three in Myerscough on Saturday.

Results and top scorers from weeks one and two can be seen on the score ticker at the top of this page.

North Pool

Manchester Magic Academy v The Sheffield College

Saturday’s North bubble event begins with a cross-Pennine battle between Manchester Magic Academy and The Sheffield College.

Tipping at 1pm, Magic will be looking for their first win of the season after straight losses to Myerscough and Charnwood.

Sheffield have had more success at 1-1, with Mahamud Ibrahim (19.5PPG) and Hensy Sako (25.0PPG) both playing well so far.

Manchester’s Malachi Boakye-Yiadom has a team-high 19 points last time out against the Riders, he’ll look to keep that form going.

James Watt College-BMet v Derby College Trailblazers

Next on Saturday’s bill is a 3pm clash between Derby and James Watt, with both teams coming off wins in week two.

Derby saw off Sheffield 109-105 in a high-scoring thriller, whilst James Watt beat SGS 82-65 in their season opener.

JWC’s Josh Ijeh’s 25 points helped set up that win and the talented forward will no doubt have an impact on tomorrow’s contest.

He’ll have to overcome Derby’s Blake Bowman though, who’s averaging an impressive 29.0PPG through the Trailblazers’ first two games.

Myerscough College v Charnwood College Riders

Saturday’s triple-header closes at 5pm with a battle between two EABL heavyweights as Myerscough take on Charnwood.

Both unbeaten so far, the Riders have knocked off Derby and Manchester, and ‘Sco have won their only game to date as they topped the Magic 65-53 in week one.

Few players have been hotter so far this summer than Charnwood’s Greg Wild. The talented shooter has been in unstoppable form and averages 28.0PPG over two contests against tough opposition.

Hosts Myerscough have plenty to offer themselves though, with Bryan Akanmu the pick of the bunch in that week one victory, he had 17 points.

South Pool

Oaklands College v Copleston High School

The first of three South Pool games to take place tomorrow, Copleston head to Oaklands for what is sure to be an exciting game.

With both teams sat at 0-2, the 3pm match up presents the opportunity for one of these sides to kickstart their Showcase.

After a quiet season opener, back-to-back South Conference MVP Ethan Price enjoyed a return to form last week despite an OT loss to CoLA. The talented big dropped 21 points on 9/13 shooting, adding 11 boards.

The scoring battle between Price and Oaklands’ Kane Daley could be worth keeping an eye on. The D1M standout from 2020/21 had 26 points for the Herts programme in week one.

Barking Abbey v John Madejski Academy

After starting the Summer Showcase with a pair of impressive performances, JMA will be put to the test tomorrow as they head to East London.

Notching up 99 points in each of the previous two games, the Rockets unsurprisingly converted both outings into wins against Oaklands and CoLA.

Barking are also unbeaten at 1-0, with their own victory over Oaklands providing Abi Adedo with the opportunity to put in a Player of the Week performance.

Tip for this one is scheduled for 3:15pm.

City of London Academy v Itchen College

Tomorrow’s final game provides CoLA’s Toibu Lawal with another chance to ball out after a highlight-filled week two performance.

Lawal put Copleston to the sword with an impressive outing, thrilling those fortunate enough to see his 19 point effort in Suffolk.

Itchen are yet to feature in this year’s Showcase, and they’ll no doubt be eager to show what they’re made of in this 4:45pm tip.
