Summer Showcase – week 6 recap

After six high-quality weeks of action, the EABL Summer Showcase is nearing an end. Next week will bring the competition to a close, but there is still plenty to look back on from the past seven days.

With seven games in total, the results and top scorers can be seen using the ticker at the top of this page.

North Pool

The Sheffield College 77-66 Newcastle Eagles Academy

The week began with Sheffield easing to a 77-66 victory over Newcastle.

Mahamud Ibrahim led the way for the Yorkshire side, pouring in a game-high 20 points as Nathan Jones and Jamie McGrail both had 11.

The North East side were unable to pick up a win in their second outing of the summer, dropping to 0-2 despite 11 points apiece from Joe Sheeran and Chris Baxter-Jones.

SGS College 49-64 Myerscough College

Myerscough remained unbeaten in this year’s Summer Showcase as they knocked off SGS College 64-49.

The road win was powered by 14 points from Franklin Agu, as SGS’ Thomas Browne would also score 14 in the losing effort.

Manchester Magic Academy 76-69 Derby College Trailblazers

The final game of week six, Manchester found a way past Derby to win 76-69.

Malachi Boakye-Yiadom was the star of the show for the hosts as the talented guard scored a game-high 24 points, Elgin Govan added 21 more.

Derby managed to get 20 points from the ever-improving Carl Alexander, though the visitors would eventually come up just short.

South Pool

Barking Abbey 80-65 Copleston High School

Barking got their double-header week off to a flying start as they beat Copleston 80-65.

The result was a welcome return to form for BA, who had picked up back-to-back losses in week three and week five.

The Canterbury Academy 63-61 Itchen College

Likewise, Canterbury also began their double-header in positive fashion, stealing a close tie against Itchen 63-61.

Kieran Farrell once again led the way for the Kent programme, he had 17 points to continue his fine form.

Jos McLeod was the top scorer for the visitors, he had 14.

Barking Abbey 63-86 The Canterbury Academy

It was Canterbury who would make it two wins from two though, as they started Saturday’s South Pool bubble event in Solent with an 86-63 victory.

Farrell starred once again with 26 points and 10 boards, and Xander Vaughan also got in on the act to add 26 more.

Shaun Samson’s 20 points helped keep Barking competitive, but it wouldn’t be enough.

Oaklands College 56-71 City of London Academy

Di-Jani Parkinson and Kavell Hawes both scored 15 points for CoLA as the South bubble event closed with a 71-56 victory over Oaklands.

Oliver Wright had 21 points for the Wolves, who fall to 1-4 on the Summer.
