Summer Showcase – week 7 recap

We’re now at the end of the 2021 EABL Summer Showcase, but it’s been quite a ride.

Five games still made up the final week of action, with Myerscough, Charnwood, Itchen, Canterbury and CoLA all sealing victories.

North Pool

Myerscough College 117-60 The Sheffield College

Sheffield were no match for Myerscough on Wednesday as the North West programme finished the Summer Showcase at 6-0.

Ridley Shema’s 22 points came courtesy for four triples as ‘Sco ran out comfortable winners, with Great Osobor (17 points) and Franklin Agu (14 points) both contributing.

Hensy Sako signed off an impressive summer with a team-high 20 points for Sheffield, but the Yorkshire side were overmatched in this one.

SGS College 60-82 Charnwood College Riders

Charnwood ran out easy winners on the road in Bristol, beating SGS College 82-60.

Victory moved the Riders to 4-1, with Kanu Gudza’s 17 points a highlight.

Jason Soodeen had 17 for the hosts, with Tom Browne and Louis Weaver both adding eight apiece.

South Pool

Itchen College 89-49 Copleston High School

Copleston fell to a heavy defeat on the road at Itchen, losing out 89-49.

The win came off the back of two straight losses for the South coast side, with Steve Nwagwu’s 18 points the pick of the bunch as coach Guymon’s side found a way to turn things around.

Jacob Morgan led the way for Copleston, he had 17 points.

The Canterbury Academy 74-71 John Madejski Academy

Will Raife signed off his Canterbury career with an impressive 30 point haul in the 74-71 W over JMA.

Raife was impressive throughout, sinking six triples and shooting 50% from long range as he proved too much for the Rockets to handle. Kieran Farrell also continued his recent good form, he closed on 14 points.

The result marked JMA’s only loss in the Showcase this year, going 4-1. Former Player of the Week Kivuvu Live top scored for the Rockets with 18 points.

City of London Academy 76-65 Barking Abbey

The 2021 Summer Showcase ended yesterday with its final game, a 76-65 win for CoLA over London neighbours Barking.

Kavell Hawes (15 points), Rohan Butler (12 points) and Jude Lambert (11 points) all played well for the hosts, whilst Shaun Samson (16 points) and
Peter Asante (15 points) were the main points of resistance for BA.
