EABL Player of the Week – 5 October 2022

The 2022/23 season has now begun, meaning it’s time to once again select a worthy Player of the Week from the EABL.

After playing a key part in Oakland’s 69-65 home win against Copleston, the first award of the season goes to Talles Zacharias.

His 20 point haul came on 7/16 shooting, but it was on the glass where the Oaklands man really shone. 19 rebounds total, including 10 on offence, set the tone for the hosts as they sealed the narrow victory.

Zacharias also tacked on two assists and three steals to an all round impressive performance, and his 30 efficiency rating was comfortably the highest of all week one players.

After winning the award, Zacharias said: “We have high aspirations this season, we want to go another step further than last year.

“We have started the right way with a win, but it was a tough game and my teammates came in clutch down the stretch.

“We have a strong team, we all need to keep improving and stay focused on getting better at this stage.”

Coach Lee Ryan added: “Talles has the chance to be an important player for us this year.

“He has always had great ability and showed this in moments last year, the difference now is his consistency.

“His game is maturing as is his understanding when to get his teammates involved and when to take the game on.

“He did a great job of balancing those two things on Wednesday. Its great to see him starting this season so positively.”
