EABL Player of the Week – 23 November 2022

The EABL is nearly into the final month of 2022, and some players are settling into some quality form as the season progresses.

With a number of worthy candidates this past Wednesday, picking a Player of the Week was a tough call but the nod has gone to Charnwood’s Edward Oniya.

Narrowly edging out JMA duo Josh Haworth and Rhys Grocott, Oniya played a key role in one of the biggest wins of the week as the Riders topped rivals Myerscough 75-65 on the road.

Dropping a team-high 21 points that included going 4-5 from beyond the arc, Oniya also added 13 rebounds for the double-double.

The talented forward also tacked on three assists and a steal for a final efficiency of 23, and his +/- of 10 in the narrow win was important for his team.

After winning the award, Oniya said: “As a first year and being new to the team it’s definitely my goal to contribute as much as I can, so getting POTW through doing that is great.

“Despite us being at a disadvantage during the first quarter, we still came through and played some great team basketball.

“Two big wins on the road, now we’re undefeated and ready for the rest of the season.”

Coach Louis Chamberlain added: “Edward has settled in straight away with us here at Charnwood, him earning this award in only his third EABL game is a testament to all the hard work he’s put in to his game so far.

“Standing 6’6” with length on his side too, the sky is the limit for Edward and that was on full display in our tough away win to Myerscough.

“As a team we hope to use this momentum and confidence to our advantage in our next EABL games.”
