EABL recap – 9 November

The EABL returned after a two week haitus, with seven games kicking off November.

Here’s what happened in another week of high-scoring contests.

SGS College 88-83 Derby College Trailblazers

SGS (3-0) remain unbeaten in the Northern Conference after seeing off the challenge of Derby (1-2).

Louie Tucker is enjoying a fine start to the new campaign and dropped 30 points in another standout performance for the hosts.

Elliot Lawrence top scored for Derby with 20 points but it wasn’t enough as they fell to a second defeat of 2022/23.

Myerscough College 121-44 Newcastle Eagles Academy

It would have been a long journey back for Newcastle as they fell to a crushing defeat on the road to Myerscough.

‘Sco made it back-to-back wins in some style, led by top scorers
Stephen Asante (18pts), Euan Birch (14pts) and Ben Prince (14pts).

Newcastle’s Jakey Weech managed 15 points despite a tough day at the office for the North East programme.

BMET 78-73 The Sheffield College

BMET are off the mark as they defeated Sheffield College to secure their first W of the season.

There wasn’t much to separate the sides on the day, which is also reflected in the current North Conference standings as both teams share the same points (3) and points difference (-14).

Sheffield’s Dec Kom (24pts) was unlucky to finish on the losing side, while
Miles Moore (21pts) and Nektarios Papadopoulos (16pts) stood out for the hosts.

Manchester Magic Academy 86-93 Charnwood College Riders

Charnwood made it two from two this season with an impressive win on the road in Manchester.

There was no sign of rust from either team after the league’s two week break, with some high scoring performances from Magic’s Joe Buchanan (29pts) and Rider’s Lane Campbell (25pts) as Charnwood’s success made it consecutive defeats for the hosts.

Itchen College 76-55 Oaklands College

Itchen are on a roll as another win over Oaklands made it three from three in a bright start to their EABL campaign.

Tyler Fairbairn (19pts) led Leslie Okafor (15pts) in the scoring charts for Itchen to keep their perfect record intact, but it meant a third defeat in a difficult start to the season for Oaklands.

John Madejski Academy 71-73 The Canterbury Academy

A close game swung the way of Canterbury as they pipped JMA to earn their second win of 2022/23.

JMA’s Pete Walker (24pts) Isaac Round (20pts) both played well in defeat, with Canterbury’s Tim Obuh (22pts) doing his part to push the Kent programme over the line.

City of London Academy – Southwark 60-66 Barking Abbey

Early South Conference pace setters Barking are ticking over nicely as a win on the road to CoLA maintained their unbeaten start.

The scoring charts were topped by Barking’s Zamoku Welch (17pts) and former Player of the Week Nedas Cholevinskas (17pts) and CoLA’s Max Coupe (17pts) as the visitors lay down their marker towards EABL success.
