EABL Player of the Week – 11 January 2023

We’re into a new year and now the mid-season break is out of the way, it’s full steam ahead to the EABL playoffs from here.

With six games to get us back underway for 2023, that meant there were plenty of players who put their hand up with standout performances last Wednesday.

After helping his side to end SGS’s unbeaten start to the season with a statement road win, Myerscough’s Stephen Asante is latest winner of Player of the Week.

Playing a key role in the 86-70 victory, Asante closed with 22 points and his +/- of 13 in a narrow win showed his impact.

Adding 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block, the talented guard filled the stat sheet on his way to a final efficiency rating of 23.

After winning the award, Asante said: “It’s an honour to be selected as Player of the Week. I had a lot of fun playing against SGS and felt like the guys really had my back.

“My teammates believed in me which gave me a lot of confidence in such an important game, to make shots and plays at the right time. I felt that a lot of my shots were in our flow of offence and I think that the game plan we had going in really helped.

“This game has allowed us to pick up more momentum and confidence going into our upcoming games, which we hope to win to secure a good spot in the playoffs.”

Myerscough head coach Troy Culley added: “It certainly feels good to be able to go to SGS and overturn the loss that we had before Christmas.

“The group have started to transfer the success we are having in the EYBL back into the domestic competition and I feel the performance last week reflected the discipline and execution required at this point of the year.

“Stephen continues to make good strides in his development, and I feel this award is nice recognition for him and how he has been performing lately.”
