EABL Final Fours recap – 22 March, plus Championship Game preview

The EABL finalists have now been confirmed for 2022/23 following a pair of high-quality Final Fours matchups.

#1 seeds Myerscough and Barking will face off in Manchester next Wednesday as the top seeds both progressed yesterday.

We take a look at both of yesterday’s contest, plus there’s a look ahead to what’s in store for next week’s final, with a full preview set to go live early next week.

#1 Myerscough College 77-61 # The Manchester Magic Academy

Myerscough secured their second EABL final berth in as many years as they beat #3 seeds The Manchester Magic Academy 77-61.

‘Sco made it three wins from three against their North West rivals for the season, thanks in part to a team-high 22 points from Daywantia Campbell-Deeble.

Peter Asante (15pts) and Daniel Azancot (12pts) both played well in support.

Ben Brown did all he could to keep Manchester’s season alive but his 24 points wouldn’t be enough.

#1 Barking Abbey 79-72 #2 Charnwood College Riders

Barking ended Charnwood’s campaign with a 79-72 home win yesterday.

The Riders’ EABL title defence came to a close despite 20 points from Lamarana Diallo and 17 more from Lane Campbell.

A game-high 24 points from Nedas Cholevinskas helped Barking to their first final since 2019/20, with Moziah Danchie adding 10 more.

Final Preview

The stage is now set for next week’s EABL final.

It what will be a repeat of the 2019/20 showpiece that never took place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both teams will no doubt be itching to win one more game and crown themselves as champions.

Their previous meeting before that was at the Final Four stage of the 2018/19 season, with BA squeezing through 63-58. Of course, both teams have experienced significant roster turnover in the ensuing seasons, such is the nature of Academy basketball.

This year’s final will take place on Wednesday 29 March 2023 at Manchester’s National Basketball Performance Centre, with a 5:30pm tip.

Tickets to attend the final are free, but still need to be purchased for capacity reasons.
