Alec Reed Academy vs John Madejski Academy

Alec Reed Academy survived late rally from John Madejski Academy to take an overtime 87-86 win in a Wednesday night thriller.

Alec Reed jumped into early lead with intense pressure defence, forcing the JMA players to struggle in finding their rhythm. Led by fierce guards Mo Adan and Elias Poorman, the London squad jumped out to an early 10 point lead.

The hosts never looked to ease off the tempo of the game, extending the lead to 20 points mid-way through the second period. Asher Ndah responded with seven points of his own for JMA to reduce deficit for the visitors; but it was Alec Reed team taking a 46-32 lead into changing room.

JMA brought more energy out of the half, changing their style of defence which saw Alec Reed lose the pace in their game. The visitors also started converting on more shots from outside the arc which saw the Alec Reed lead cut to just seven points at the end of the third.

Coach Alan Keane’s players never gave up, and after solid fourth quarter JMA were able to send the contest to overtime. However, Alec Reed were able to hold their nerves in the extra period, taking a victory by a single point in only their second game in the EABL, improving to a 2-0 record.

Alec Reed Head Coach Daniel Szatkowski said, “It was truly game of two completely different halves. In the first half we looked really focused and were executing our game plan. In the second half we lost rhythm and we gave JMA way too many open shots. The players showed a great resilience and will to win in the overtime period.”

Elias Poorman led all scorers with 22 points, while Mo Adan also chipped in 19 for the home side. David Chive scored 18 points to lead JMA.

Next week Alec Reed Academy will travel to the south coast to play BHASVIC, while JMA will host Copleston on 10 November.
