Barking Abbey School v Itchen College

Itchen College ended Barking Abbey’s unbeaten start in the EABL with an impressive 74-70 come from behind win on Wednesday afternoon.

The vistors finished the game with a 28 to 17 fourth quarter, trailing by twelve at one stage in the final period. Down 63-50, Jeremy Sochan and Jake Watson inspired a 15-2 run that made it 64-65 and set up a tight finish.

Down the stretch a big three from Rhys Sundimalt was eventually a momentum swinging shot for Itchen, giving them the lead and the opportunity to close out the game

Robin Bedford led Barking Abbey with 19 points in the loss, whilst Theo Hughes had 14 points and Ade Adebayo had 13.

For Itchen, Sochan finished with an impressive 31 points; Sundimalt had 16 and Watson 8.

Barking Abbey coach Lloyd Gardner commented: “Obviously anytime you have a double digit lead in the fourth quarter and lose you are disappointed. I thought we had a chance to close out the game which we didn’t take but you can’t take away the credit that Itchen deserve today. I thought they gave us their best shot and did what they had to in order to win. We need to use this game as an opportunity to refocus and lock in as we head towards the end of the regular season.”

Barking Abbey will regroup with an away trip to BHASVIC next week whilst Itchen will also be on the road as they travel back to the capital to face Alec Reed.
