Barking Abbey School vs Alec Reed Academy

Barking Abbey moved to 15-1 in the EABL with a victory over visiting Alec Reed Academy on Wednesday, running out to a 84-59 win.

A 9-0 run at the end of the first quarter for Barking Abbey broke open the game for the hosts.  Some strong defense and transition baskets paved the way for the run, which was carried into the second quarter. Robin Bedford and Spyros Kapsalos led the way for Barking Abbey who were able to push the lead out even further making it a 47-27 game at the break.

The second half was an even game as Alec Reed found some rhythm offensively, led by Mo Adan in the third period who had 6 points in the quarter. Barking Abbey finished the game with four players in double figures, lead by Ade Adebayo who had 17. He was joined by Chris Feeney (13), Stephen Akpan (12) and Robin Bedford (11).

Alec Reed were lead by 16 points from Adan aided by Barney Mambika who also finished with double figures, reaching 13 points with 9 points coming in the fourth quarter

Barking Abbey coach Lloyd Gardner commented, “I was pleased with our performance today.  It was great to see a couple of our guys back on the court who have been out for a while with injury.  It really helps our depth with having them back and I feel like today we were able to play with a really good intensity.  We created a lot from our defense which is something I don’t think we have done well enough so far this year in the EABL so that’s a positive sign for us heading towards the end of the regular season.”

Barking Abbey will have a double week in the EABL next week, facing Oaklands on Monday and then SEEVIC at home on Wednesday to finish up their regular season campaign. Alec Reed will be on the road again as they travel to face Copleston in Ipswich
