Barking Abbey School vs City of London Academy

Barking Abbey improved to 12-0 with a 79-51 win over City of London Academy on Thursday afternoon at BA.

Caleb Fuller led BA with 20 points and 9 rebounds, Sean Nealon-Lino had 15 points, and Jonathan St Hilaire had 13.

CoLA were led by 16 points from Patrick Lanipekun as the only player in double figures, with Woldeyes having 8 and Darbin and Basilio 5 each.

“Defensively I thought we did a very good job today holding a good CoLA team to 51 points,” BA Head Coach James Vear said.

“It’s still good to see that our guys were disappointed with our overall performance and they still want to improve; it’s a quick turnaround as we play Oaklands tomorrow so hopefully we can tidy up some of the mistakes we made today.”

BA put in arguably their best defensive performance of the season in the first half, despite struggling to on offence. Micah Savery-Richards and Theo Hughes both converted easy lay ups to give BA a 17-7 lead after the opening period.

BA picked up the pace offensively in the second quarter, but CoLA also upped their game, as they attacked the hoop and got to the line to get BA in foul trouble, though BA led 39-23 at halftime.

CoLA came out fired up in the third quarter, leading to an early time out from BA as the visitors had reduced the deficit to single digits. BA managed to steady the ship and then started converting from beyond the arc to capitalise on CoLA going into a zone, taking a 16 point lead into the fourth quarter where they would hold on to the win.

BA get straight back into the action with a game against Oaklands on Friday, whilst CoLA take on Canterbury at home next week to round out their season.
