Barking Abbey School vs James Watt College

Barking Abbey advanced in the EABL playoffs with a 102-60 home victory over the 4th seed from the Northern conference, James Watt College on Tuesday afternoon.

The final score flattered Abbey who didn’t really get into the game until later on in the 2nd Half thanks to the hot shooting of Chris Feeney who made nine threes on his way to 33 points.

The opening exchanges went the way of the home side, who built up a 22-5 lead early with some strong defense forcing turnovers from James Watt.  However, the visitors found their feet in the 2nd quarter making it a competitive 46-34 game at the half.  As the game wore on, Abbey took control, making 9 second half threes and scoring 56 points in the 2nd half on their way to the win.

Barking Abbey finished the game with four players in double figures, lead by Feeney (33).  He was joined by Robin Bedford (12), Jonathan Brown (11) and Flynn Boardman Raffett (10).

James Watt were lead by 21 points from the impressive Daniel Penkov aided by Ian Rodriguez who also finished with 14 points and Rodrigo San Martin who had 13.

Barking Abbey coach Lloyd Gardner commented, “It was a mixed performance from us today, we had some really good periods of play but some parts where we were frustrated with what we were trying to do. Our strength in depth showed in the end and all credit to James Watt who I thought just ran out of bodies and energy as the game wore on.”

Barking Abbey will be at home in the final four as they will welcome Mysercough College next week, in a repeat of last seasons final in the EABL.
