Barking Abbey 79 – 59 Copleston High School

Barking Abbey maintained their unbeaten record in the EABL,  defeating second place Copleston 79-59.

Barking started quickly, jumping out to a quick 7-2 lead forcing Copleston into an early timeout.  Copleston would reply behind stand out guard Ben Winter, but Barking would finish the quarter strong and hold an 8-point lead 19-11 at the end of the 1st.

The second quarter saw Copleston start the better of the two teams once again behind Ben Winter and last year’s EABL MVP Ethan Price.  A spark off the bench from Oliver Malungo would give Barking an 11-point lead at the half.

The third quarter started poorly for Barking with Copleston starting to find rhythm on the offensive end.  Josh Morgan would find himself open for back to back threes towards the end of the quarter, giving Copleston a 24-20 lead in the quarter to set up an exciting final 10 minutes.

The fourth quarter saw both teams have good periods of play, but it was Barking who would eventually break the game open in the last five minutes, scoring 13 unanswered points behind three straight 3s from point guard Louis Norton before holding on for the win.

Barking head coach James Vear commented: “The score line flattered us a little bit I think, the game was closer than the score suggested.  We had good periods of play today especially defensively and I thought we did a good job limiting two of the better players in the EABL to under their scoring averages.”
