Barking Abbey 91 – 73 Itchen College

Barking Abbey won a fought game versus a much improved Itchen team to remain unbeaten and win the Southern Conference with a game remaining.

Barking started quickly with jumping out to a quick 9-2 lead forcing Itchen coach Matt Guymon to call an early timeout.  Itchen would regroup and take a 1-point lead into the second quarter.

The second quarter stared well for Barking behind the play of Thomas Sowoolu and Chris Feeney.  Barking would take a 7-point lead into the half.

The third quarter would see Barking improve defensively only allowing Itchen to score 13 points in the quarter, this would allow Barking to take a 17-point lead into the 4th.

The fourth quarter saw both teams have good periods of play with Nwagwa & Forster from Itchen causing Barking problems.  Barking would keep the lead though and eventually run out winners by 18-points 91-73

Barking head coach James Vear commented “The score line flattered us a little bit I think the game was closer than the score suggested.  Matt is one of the best coaches in the EABL and he had his team ready to play, I was happy with how our guys played in the second half especially defensively”

The win for Barking means they now move to 15 & 0 with one game left to play against JMA.  The win also confirmed Barking as Southern Conference champions for the regular season and means a home tie in the first round of the playoffs.
