Barking Abbey 73 – 59 John Madejski Academy

Barking Abbey improved to 7-0 after defeating previously unbeaten JMA Reading Rockets in a top of the table EABL clash.

JMA started the quicker with Sam Grant and Asher Ndah hitting early baskets.  Barking would then go on a 8 – 2 run, spear headed Tom Sowoolu.  Two threes to end the quarter by Titus Warari and Sam Alajiki meant Barking held a 16 – 7 first quarter lead.

The second period was a scrappy quarter with both teams struggling to find much rhythm offensively.  It was also very low scoring with JMA wining the quarter 11-8.  Barking held a 6 point lead at half time.

The third quarter started really well for Barking scoring the first 6 points, JMA would respond through a couple of David Chive baskets but a Veron Eze three on the buzzer meant Barking would hold an 8 point lead going into the 4th.

The fourth was Barking’s best quarter, out scoring JMA 16 – 5 at the end of the game to see the game our comfortably 73-59.

Barking head coach James Vear commented on the win: “I thought defensively we were very good for large portions of the game, offensively we struggled to find any kind of rhythm all game but its always good to see our defence bail us out when we don’t play our best.”

Top scorers for BA were Veron Eze with 17, Sam Alajiki on 16 and Chima Obikwele with 10. For JMA, Asher Ndah led the way with 12, Sam Grant had 11 and David Chive 10.
