Barking Abbey vs Charnwood College

Barking Abbey will be looking to defend their EABL national Championship title as they booked their ticket to the final with a 78-71 win over Charnwood College on Wednesday.

The game, which was a re-match of last year’s final, saw BA hold off a second half run from Charnwood before pulling away in the fourth for the win behind a 26-point, 13-rebound double double from Caleb Fuller.

Ade Adebayo added 14 points, whilst Theo Hughes joined them in double figures with 10.

“We’re delighted to make it back to the final again,” BA Head Coach Lloyd Gardner said.

“I thought in spurts we played really well in the game, but at other times there were definite areas for us to work on. I thought we had opportunities that we missed, especially on the offensive end.

“Obviously, a team like Charnwood are always going to make it a tough game so we’re pleased we showed the mental strength to get through their run in the third quarter and I thought down the stretch we played a pretty solid game.”

Charnwood were led by 17 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks from Hosana Kitenge, as five players reached double digits. Morgan Carter had 13, Sesan Russell and Niall Harris added 12 each, with Joe Bielak having 10.

BA went up double digits in the first half, to lead by 8 at halftime before Charnwood’s run at the start of the third which saw them take the lead.

The home side steadied the ship, responding to tie it up at the end of the third, before going on their own run to start the final period and take a lead they would not give up the rest of the way.

BA will now face Myerscough in the EABL Championship Final on Thursday March 22 at Leicester Arena.
