Barking Abbey 83-59 CoLA

Barking Abbey maintained their unbeaten start to the EABL season beating an in from COLA team 83 – 59.

Barking started quickly with jumping out to a quick 9 – 1 lead forcing COLA head coach Junior Williams into an early timeout.  COLA would regroup and finish the quarter strongly scoring the last 6 points.  At the end of the first quarter Barking held a narrow 3-point lead 19-16.

The second quarter started really well for Barking going on a quick 8 – 0 run led by Sam Alajiki and Ayo Amolegbe.  Defensively Barking did a good job of limiting COLA’s strong guard attack only giving up 2 points over the first 5 minutes of the quarter.  COLA would once again regroup behind Kavell Hawes who started to get going towards the end of the half.  Barking would take a 16-point lead into the half 47-31.

The third quarter started poorly for Barking who came out flat forcing Head Coach Rikki Broadmore to call an early timeout with COLA using their full court defense to try and get back in the game.  Barking would respond behind Veron Eze and Sam Alajiki.  Barking would win the quarter by 10 taking a 26 point lead into the 4th.

The fourth quarter saw both teams have good periods of play with COLA’s Kavell Hawes once again playing well.  COLA would win the final quarter 16-14 but Barking would win comfortably 83-59.

Barking head coach Rikki Broadmore commented on the win “I thought we had some really good moments today, COLA were one of the form teams in the EABL , I thought we did a good job matching their energy”
