Barking Abbey vs Copleston Sixth Form

Barking Abbey remain the only undefeated team in the EABL East Conference at 3-0 after a hard fought 75-62 win over Copleston on Wednesday at BA.

Andre Lavinier led BA with 17, as Ade Adebayo and Spyros Kapsalos added 12 each.

BA overcame a 28 point outing from Ben Winter, who caused problems throughout, and 20 points from big man Jonny Hall, who continued his impressive start to the season.

“We struggled to get going at times today,” BA Head Coach James Vear said.

“Credit to Nick and his team, they played us really well, especially Ben Winter who has improved a lot this summer. Defensively we need to improve a lot if we are to compete for the EABL title this season.”

The home side started well going up 5-0, with Daniel Delgado and Andre Lavinier setting the scoring tone
early. Copleston’s Ben Winter hit two spot up three pointers and got to the line to have eight points in the early stages, but BA led 15-13 after one.

BA stepped up defensively in the second quarter, although Jonny hall started to be a factor, drawing fouls and getting to the line. Offensively BA found some rhythm, as they scored 22 points in the period to hold a 37-28 lead at halftime.

In the second half, BA kept the margin to 10 for the majority of the contest despite Winter and Hall’s best efforts, as they reduced the lead to six with five minutes remaining before Delgado and Lavinier scored the last 10 points to secure the victory for BA.

BA return to action on November 8 at home when they face John Madejski Academy, as they will look to continue their strong start to the season, whilst Copleston return home to face BHASVIC on the same date.
