Barking Abbey 107 v 41 Oaklands College

Barking Abbey started the EABL season with a convincing win at home against the Oaklands College, running out 107-41 victors.

BA got off to a fast with Louis Norton running in back to back layups before Oaklands were forced to call an early timeout. The hosts continued to make it hard for their opponents to find their rhythm on offence and the first quarter would end 29–5.

The second quarter started well for Oaklands with Toby Gastladi-Davies scoring back-to-back baskets. Barking responded with Veron Eze and Tautvydas Meilauskas hitting back-to-back threes and the sides would eventually head to the break with the score at 56–15.

Barking started poorly in the third with Lucas Francis hitting a tough and-1 layup and Barking turning the ball over twice on their first two possessions. Sam Alajiki and Jude Carmichael steadied the ship though and helped the home side see out the quarter.

The fourth was much like the third with Oaklands having their best scoring quarter, notching up 20 points, as Barking showed glimpses of the basketball they enjoyed in the first half to cap a comfortable win.

Top scorers for Barking were Veron Eze on 20, Ayo Amolegbe with 14 and Chris Feeney on 13. Top scorers for Oaklands were Toby Gastaldi Davies with 12 and Lucas Francis on 10.

Next week Barking have a tough game away to last year’s Southern Conference runners up Itchen College, and Oaklands host Canterbury.
