BHASVIC vs Canterbury High School

BHASVIC faced another tough test in the EABL against Canterbury, going down 89-60 on Wednesday.

Canterbury were led by their guard Jonathan Brown with 21 points, with former BHASVIC player Dan Beard adding 18 points and their captain Elliot Bailey chipped in with 13 points.

Looking for another strong start at home, Canterbury caught them off guard from the very beginning of the game which saw BHASVIC trailing big after the first quarter 37-15.

The second quarter was much the same with Canterbury piling on more pressure. Although it seemed like the game was over and done with, BHASVIC came out of the third quarter strong, which they haven’t done so in the past few games and they won the quarter.

The momentum carried through the fourth quarter as BHASVIC tried to chip away at the lead but despite winning the second half, in the end the first quarter deficit was too much to overcome.

After the game, BHASVIC coach James Quinto highly praised his team for the effort they gave in the second half:

“I’m proud of our guys that they came out of half time with more positivity and energy, however, we can never start a game like that because it’s too much work to do especially when the momentum isn’t in your side.”

He also added:

“I thought defensively in the first half we weren’t great, kudos to Canterbury for applying pressure on us at both ends of the floor, however, I thought we matched that intensity after half time. It’s difficult for some to look on the positives but I believe we took a massive step in the right direction and hopefully these next two weeks we can prepare well for a massive home game against Oaklands.”

BHASVIC were led by Callum Collins who had 18 points, Naz McLoughlin with 11 points and the captain Enoch Quarcoo had 9 points.

BHASVIC plays Oakland’s next at home in two weeks’ time and Canterbury face Coplestone.
