BHASVIC vs Oaklands College

Oaklands escaped with a 73-71 victory over BHASVIC on Wednesday, thanks to two late free throws from Jose Morais.

Oaklands were led by Jordan George with 22 points and their guard Jose Morais with 16 points while Ope Ofalabi chipped in with 10 points.

BHASVIC were led by their captain Enoch Quarcoo who had 24 points and Callum Collins with 15 points. Naz McLoughlin came off the bench with 16 points.

Looking for another strong start at home, BHASVIC were much prepared this time for what Oaklands had to throw at them, only trailing 28-34 at halftime.

Coming out of the break, BHASVIC looked to start off strong as the third quarter has been their achilles heel, and off they did outscoring Oaklands 27-16.

However, a 14-0 run by the visitors, which started towards the end of the third quarter, carried on to the first few minutes of the fourth which saw Oaklands climb back from 10 point deficit to lead by two early in the last quarter.

Oaklands kept their pressure on BHASVIC until the end and secured a win in the last 8 seconds of the game from the free throw line.

BHASVIC coach James Quinto said:

“This is the best game we’ve played in terms of executing the game plan as a collective instead of coming out to play as individuals. The energy was there from start to finish and I believe that we deserved to win this game based on how our boys performed, but unfortunately you have to be able to keep your focus until the end and we made errors which cost us the game when we were up and Oaklands punished us.”

He also added: “The boys were upset after the game but to see the camaraderie in the locker room is a very positive thing to take. They were all raring to get back to practice tomorrow and get better, ready for the last 2 games before Christmas and hopefully we can surprise a few people.”

BHASVIC visit Copleston next week and Oaklands visit defending champions Barking Abbey in two weeks time.
