James Watt College vs Newcastle Eagles Academy

James Watt College defeat Newcastle Eagles Academy at home on Wednesday, with a final score of 94-67.

James Watt smothered Newcastle in the opening of the game, taking away their space and contesting every shot which allowed them to jump out to a 14 – 2 score after 5 minutes. The home side persisted with their relentless play and piled on the points, but Newcastle found eventually found their rhythm and were able to score some consistent points for the remainder of the quarter. The away side continued their run into the second period, with J Moore heating up for eight points in the quarter. However, James Watt continued their scoring to finish the half with a score of 51-32. 

The third quarter was similar to the first as James Watt were ruthless in their scoring, capitalising on mistakes with fast break points while also executing in the half court. Newcastle struggled to maintain their intensity from the second quarter and found themselves down 76 – 46 going into the final period. Newcastle were able to pile on the points late and reduce the deficit, winning the quarter 19- 20 and finishing the game with a final score of 94-67.

James Watt host Charnwood next week and Newcastle travel to Gloucester.

Top scorers for James Watt include Conor Lynch 19, Wakeem Richards 24 and Ian Rodriguez 21. Newcastle Eagles top performers included J. Moore 20 points, J. Lievin 12 and T. Riley 9.
