BMET James Watt College vs Charnwood College

Charnwood recorded their third win of the season with an outstanding display on the road to James Watt College in Birmingham, registering a 49-92 win.

Sesan Russell led Charnwood with 18, Liam Johnson had 16, whilst Hosana Kitenge added 15.

George Iliev led James Watt with 23 points, whilst Daniel Penkov had 8.

The Leicester based team took advantage of poor ball handling and missed shots by the home side to jump out to an early lead behind the scoring of Liam Johnson. Charnwood would win the first quarter 7-33.

The second quarter would be much better for the home side as they began to finish good scoring opportunities themselves behind the offensive perimeter play of Daniel Penkov and the inside presence of Giorge Iliev.

However, poor ballhandling and passing would be the undoing of James Watt College late in the quarter as Charnwood were handed easy baskets in transition. James Watt would lose the second quarter 12 -15 going into the half down 19-38

The third quarter would see both teams battle for control of the game but Charnwood’s superior numbers would see then win the quarter. The James Watt guards were simply unable to handle the pressure. Charnwood would take the third quarter 10-25 taking a 41 point lead into the fourth.

The final period would see James Watt try to rally but continued breakdowns in rotations by Charnwood would see James Watt win the quarter by a point 20-19.

James Watt Head Coach Nigel Hanson commented:

“It’s a disappointing loss as we simply didn’t bring our best game today. This is our third EABL loss this season each of which has come after our EBL U18’s have beaten our opposition’s EBL U18’s very comfortably the preceding weekend.

“Ultimately at EABL level they are recruited, a little older and stronger and you could see that today.”

Up next James Watt to play Derby in the AoC Cup whilst Charnwood are away to Birmingham’s Aston Manor also in the Cup.
