BMET James Watt College vs SGS College

James Watt College recorded their third win of the season with an outstanding display at home in a 94-63 win over SGS College in Birmingham.4

Daniel Penkov exploded for 35 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists, whilst David Stevic had 20 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals for James Watt, who jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

AJ Edu was the high-man for SGS with 24 points, 20 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks, but it would not be enough.

The West Midlands based team took advantage of poor ball handling and missed shots by the away side to jump out to an early lead behind the scoring of Daniel Penkov, as they led 30-16 after one.

The second quarter wouldn’t be much better for the away side as James Watt College continued to finish good scoring opportunities behind the offensive scoring play of Daniel Penkov and the inside presence of Giorgi Illiev.

However, poor ballhandling and passing would be the undoing of James Watt College late in the quarter as SGS were handed easy baskets through the offensive rebounding of AJ Edu and easy layups in transition. James Watt would win the second quarter 25-15, going into the half up 55-31.

The third quarter would see both teams battle for control of the game but SGS, with their superior inside play, would win the quarter. The SGS guards were able to handle the James Watt pressure, and SGS would take the third quarter 17-17, but still trailed by 33 heading into the fourth.

The fourth quarter would see SGS try to rally but the continued excellent outside shooting of James Watt College would see them win the quarter.

James Watt Head Coach Nigel Hanson commented: “It’s a very good win, as we simply brought our best game today. This is our third EABL win this season and we are pleased to get it.”

James Watt will play Myerscough the week after next, whilst SGS are also at home to Myerscough the coming week.
