Canterbury High School vs BHASVIC

Canterbury High School bounced back from a loss last week with a comprehensive 107-45 win over BHASVIC in EABL Southern Conference action.

Canterbury led from start to finish with a dominant 56-13 first half, leading them to a routine victory. A balanced attack saw 11 players score for Canterbury, with five reaching double figures.

Canterbury took control from the opening tip, starting the game on a 16-0 run. Milo Gordon and Emmanuel Sesay scored five points apiece in the opening quarter, which finished 25-5 in favour of the hosts.

The second quarter saw more of the same, with Will Raife scoring 13 of his game high 24 points in the quarter, while Gordon also reached double figures by the half.

Entering the final quarter trailing 78-23, BHASVIC’s offence came to light as Ben Curran made his mark from behind the three-point line. However, Canterbury continued to score freely, running away with the victory.

Joining Raife (24) and Gordon (19) in double figures were Josh Moore (12), Xander Vaughan (12) and Chester Morrell (10).

Raife summed up the win, saying, “We played great defence to start the game, whilst pushing the ball hard in transition throughout. Overall, we played well as a team giving each other great opportunities and building habits.”

Canterbury Coach Adam Davies added, “A very pleasing first half for us at both ends of the floor. Defensively we managed to shut them down for long periods of play and we executed on the offensive end. The second half saw all 12 guys get in the rotation and, whilst the result was inevitable, the guys managed to keep competing and built good habits going into our next game.”

Next week Canterbury host Oaklands College in a rare Thursday EABL match-up on 13 December, while BHASVIC travel to John Madejski Academy on Wednesday 12 December.
