Charnwood College 95 – 71 James Watt College

Charnwood made it two wins from two this week, following up a victory against Derby with a 95-71 W against James Watt.

The first half was a great contest from the two sides. The visitors James Watt really came out to play and brought it to Charnwood in the first half, with some tough defence and some great inside scoring from Josh Ijeh.

Charnwood struggled to get into any kind of rhythm throughout the first two periods. James Watt led by as many of 12 throughout the half. With one minute to go before the break the visitors held a 10 point lead, however an and 1 from Greg Wild, followed by a steal from Wild and score form Blaize, Charnwood cut the deficit to just 3 points.

Charnwood came out the third quarter ready to play and a pair of threes from Greg Wild and Blaize Sagna saw the hosts suddenly up by three. However Kanu Gudza on the defensive end really got the team going with some excellent full court pressure.

A flurry of skilful scores from big man Victor Ndoukou saw the lead grow and grow the longer the quarter progressed. Max Guasden added a pair of threes, as did Josh Lloyd and an impressive 38-12 3rd quarter saw the home side up 75-52.

A more even fourth quarter saw the lead stay the same, sealing a comfortable victory for Charnwood in the end

Blaize Sagna was impressed with Charnwood’s 2nd half: “It was a good second half for us, we set some targets before the game but didn’t focus on our goals for the first 20 minutes. However we showed some real resilience and some fight in the second half to show what were capable of.”

Charnwood will face SGS back at home next week.
