Charnwood College 93 v 105 Myerscough College

Wednesday saw a shootout between the two top teams in the Northern Conference, with Myerscough hitting 12 from deep and Charnwood nailing 14 triples in reply but despite that advantage it was Myerscough’s inside presence that lifted them past the defending champs 105 – 93.

The first quarter saw Charnwood take a small lead behind a pair of threes from Josh Lloyd and Victor Ndoukou. However a barrage of offensive rebounds from the visitors saw the game all tied up after the first period.

Bradley Kaboza led his squad in the 2nd quarter, scoring 10 consecutive points towards the end of the half. Lewis McGlasson was sent to the line on the final possession of the 2nd period, converting on 2 of his 3 free throws to give the visitors a 9 point lead going into the break.

A hot start from both teams in the 3rd period saw an exchange of difficult shots going in, however the home team found it hard to contain their hot shooting opponents. Myerscough led by as many as 18 throughout the period and the Riders struggled to get the deficit within touching distance. Charnwood didn’t give up though and managed to get the game within 8 but timely scores from Myerscough’s bigs inside kept the home team at bay.

“It was a rough day for us today”, said Charnwood head coach Will Maynard. “We didn’t execute our game plan and huge credit to Myerscough, they punished us for it. We as a group have to understand that we are a different team to last year and we need to get better as the year goes on. Its still early on and we will bounce back and learn from this.”

Charnwood host the Sheffield College next as they look to get back to winning ways, as Myerscough host the unbeaten James Watt College.
