Charnwood College 124 v 88 The Sheffield College

A strong start for Charnwood saw the home team run away from the visiting team with a 124-88 win over Sheffield College.

The first half was a 69 point haul for the home side with Blaize Sagna scoring 26 of his game high 32 points in the first 2 periods. Charnwood applied pressure defence throughout the first 2 quarters which allowed many of fast break layups and easy points in transition. Charnwood held a comfortable break going into half time, 69 to 37.

Sheffield College didn’t give up going into the second half, with 2 strong scoring quarters from the travelling team, with 22 points in the third and 29 points in the fourth. However, despite scoring from the visitors it was a struggle for Sheffield to get stops as the home side continued to score the ball at a successful rate throughout the second half.

Charnwood head coach Will Maynard said: “We need to be better defensively, we need to start holding teams to a lower number if we wanting to be winning the championship this year. I am pleased what we are doing offensively and we need to continue our confidence on the offensive end. Credit to Sheffield who didn’t give up today, they showed a great deal of resilience and determination to stay in the game.”

Charnwood had 5 players with double digits, Sagna leading the way with 32, Parnell added 14, and Durand had 13 of his own. For Sheffield, Tom Morey top scored with 24 points, followed by Ibrahim with 17 and Wright with 13.

Charnwood will have a week off before heading away to James Watt on the 6 November.
