Charnwood College vs Allerton City of Leeds Academy

Charnwood College cruised on their way to a 104-49 rout of Allerton City of Leeds on Wednesday afternoon.

Having had a multiple-week break, Charnwood came out of the gates firing, starting with passion and energy as they jumped out to a big early lead and never looking back.

Charnwood College were led by 16 points from Liam Johnson, with Niall Harris and Joe Bielak added 14-a-piece.

Harry Resendez led Allerton with 15, Will Gilroy had 12, and Bailey England and George Halliday added 8 each.

All Charnwood players were rotated heavily early on with the goal of keeping a high rhythm for the full 40 minutes. But Leeds answered with some easy shots after stealing the ball, however, Charnwood led 54-23 at half time.

The opening minutes of the second half were the best of the game for Charnwood, with Hosana Kitenge doing his best on defence and creating options for his teammates. It took Allerton five minutes before they got on the scoreboard, as Charnwood extended their lead.

The final quarter saw Charnwood’s inside players step up. Morgan Carter and Charlie Lowe took control for Charnwood, while Allerton’s Rendez, scored 8. The game was broken but both teams went on looking for their best performance with some great plays that impressed spectators.

Charnwood Head Coach Angel Navarro commented:

“It’s always tough to play a well coached team with players that can play in many positions. Our goal was to stop the three point shots, and we got it because Leeds didn’t score one.

“On the other hand I would like that our players were more focused in the game than on the score board. Every second is important to create habits and also every shot, pass, defense, etc, mainly when we don’t have many opportunities to play together.”

Next week Charnwood College is visiting Loreto in one of the most important games of the season and City of Leeds is playing away against Derby College.
