Charnwood College vs Derby Trailblazers Academy

Charnwood College improved to a 7-0 start in their EABL Northern Conference campaign with a strong performance over Derby, winning 106-74.

The home side opened up an early lead, but Derby came fighting back. Despite some nice transition plays from Derby’s Luke Ptak, Charnwood finished the first quarter with a small advantage 25-18. Some strong individual play from Niall Harris saw him lead the hosts with 16 points in the half, stretching their lead as Derby trailed by 19 points at the half-time break.

Despite Joe Beilak and Niall Harris picking up their third fouls early in the third period, Charnwood continued to show their scoring ability with other players stepping up and contributing. The home side were hot behind the arc throughout the second half, hitting 13 three-pointers, with six coming from first year guard Greg Wild. Derby continued to fight, hitting some tough shots down the stretch, but Charnwood’s up-tempo style allowed them to see the game off with a 106-74 victory.

Charnwood guard Niall Harris was pleased with how the team stepped up, “I think this was a really good win for us, even though we were missing a few key players, everyone stepped up and contributed to fill those spots. Despite starting slow, we did a really good job in the second half, and came out with a comfortable win.”

Charnwood head into the Christmas break with a perfect start in the EABL Northern Conference, and they will begin 2019 with a road trip to The Sheffield College on Wednesday 9 January as they look to continue their unbeaten start. Derby also resume their season after the break with a trip to Sheffield the following week on Wednesday 16 January.
