Charnwood College vs Itchen College

Charnwood College Riders advanced to the EABL final for the second straight year with a comfortable 113-77 win over Itchen College on Wednesday.
Johde Campbell led Charnwood with an impressive 37 point haul for the home team.
Itchen started the game brightly getting to the basket at will, forcing Charnwood head coach Josh Merrington to call an early timeout. The home side responded, but it was still Itchen who led 23-26 behind 9 points from Rael Williams at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter belonged to Charnwood as they began to click at both ends of the floor, winning the period 34-12 to take a 57-38 lead in to half time. Campbell poured in 14 of his game high 37 in the period.
Charnwood maintained their strong play in the third period as they closed the quarter with a huge baseline dunk from Kieran Horrigan and a deep three from Campbell.
Both teams competed to the final buzzer with Charnwood running out 113-77 winners.
Charnwood Head Coach Josh Merrington was complimentary of the visitors:
“Firstly, credit to Itchen on a great season. Matt Guymon and Jack O’Keefe have done a great job with their team.
“I’m really proud of our team today. We had a bit of a rocky start but we picked it up. It feels great to be going back to the final, these players have worked incredibly hard all season. They deserve this opportunity.”
Charnwood captain David Issekya was please with his team’s performance:
“I’m really proud of the guys and the coaching staff for making it to the finals for the second year in a row. We earned a little celebration at the end of the game but tomorrow it’s back to work preparing for the final next week.”
Sesan Russell (19), Morgan Carter (13) and Henri Langton (10) all joined Campbell in double figures for Charnwood. Sam Van Oostrum led Itchen with 16 points. He was supported by Williams (15), Adam Riabi (13) and Vaighan Browne (11) who also reached double figures.
Charnwood advance to the final where they will play Barking Abbey at the Leicester Arena next Wednesday.
