Charnwood College vs Newcastle Eagles Academy

Charnwood College continued their EABL Northern Conference campaign with a victory over Newcastle, as the home side came out on top, 107-46.

The opening quarter saw the Charnwood defence triumph early, with some great spells of aggressive defence. The Riders excelled during the first quarter, ending with 29-7 lead. The Riders had another solid performance on the defensive end during the second period, only conceding 15 points total as they headed into the half-time break.

The depth of the Riders continued to show, with all 12 players seeing the floor in the first 20 minutes and all of them contributing. This allowed the fresh legs to maintain the defensive effort as multiple different line-ups were effective for the home side. Despite a more aggressive third quarter from the travelling Eagles, Charnwood continued to pull away, finishing the game with a 107-46 victory.

Charnwood Coach Will Maynard was impressed with the teams focus and energy, saying “I had spoken to the group within the week about energy we play with within the games, and I’m extremely impressed with how the group of reacted off of the back of the discussion. Our aggression and energy was amazing, especially in the first half, only allowing 15 points in the first half, as this really set the tone for the remainder of the game.”

The next game for Charnwood College is a match-up with Myerscough at home on 7 November, while the Eagles travel to fellow EABL Northern Conference newcomers The Sheffield College.
