Charnwood College vs The Sheffield College

Charnwood College opened up their first home game of the season with a victory over The Sheffield College, outscoring the league newcomers 109-56.

The opening quarter was a well fought battle, as Charnwood College tried to pull away with some nice plays from Niall Harris and Hosana Kitenge. However, Harrison Bell kept Sheffield within touching distance after making tough shot after tough shot. Charnwood took a small lead at the end of the first, 28-20.

The second quarter saw some solid defence from Charnwood which led to some easy points on the break, which saw the home side go into half time with a 23 point advantage, leading 57-34.

The half time team talk saw Head Coach Will Maynard urge Charnwood to keep applying pressure on defence, which inspired an outstanding third quarter, only allowing the opposition to net three points in the 10 minute period.

Coach Maynard was pleased with the teams effort, “Our standards have been set now, all the boys did great holding a team to 3 points in a quarter. We were locked in and focused throughout the whole period. I thought Blaize Sagna and Leon Neziri really lead us with the energy on the defensive end tonight, allowing us to get out in transition. Credit to Sheffield, as a new team in the league they played some really positive basketball, and forced us to play all the way through to the buzzer!”

Charnwood College continued to pull away in the fourth, with some key standout performances. Niall Harris led the way with 20 points, while Hosana Kitenge was close behind with 17 points of his own.

The next game for Charnwood sees them face another new team in the league, the Newcastle Eagles Academy, which will take place at Charnwood College next Wednesday, tipping at 5.15pm. Meanwhile, The Sheffield College continue their road games with a trip to Derby Trailblazers Academy.
