City of London Academy vs Itchen College

CoLA hosted Itchen in what was a battle in the truest sense of the word for the third place finish in the eastern conference with the visitors coming out on top 64-67.

Itchen were led by Aaron Berida with 25 points with Matt Hughes adding 20. Louis Norton had 14 points for CoLA, while Peter Turay and Patrick Lanipekun had 10 points apiece.

Itchen started the game in aggressive fashion jumping out to a 5 point lead which shocked CoLA. After an early timeout CoLA looked to regroup but behind the hot shooting of player of the week Aaron Bereida with 10 points in the first quarter, the visitors ended the quarter with a one point lead 14-15.

The second quarter saw Berida continue his hot shooting hitting two more from behind the stripe and Hughes contributing 8 points to give the visitors a healthy 9 point cushion. Lead by the aggressive play of Norton, CoLA closed the gap to go behind by 4 at the half 30 – 34.

The third quarter saw much of the same with Itchen capitalising on the missed opportunities by CoLA and the contest seemingly slipping out of CoLA’s reach despite the change in tempo and defensive pressure.

CoLA had one more quarter to fight for 3rd place with multiple efforts coming from Hadrian Bassillio and Louis Norton and despite winning the third quarter 20-16, it wasn’t effort and the home team fell short.

CoLA Head Coach Sterling Muschett said: “CoLA didn’t play their brand of athletic transition basketball until too late.

“We slowed the game down on the offensive end when we should have played faster and our defensive pressure was in spurts.”

The playoff picture for both teams have CoLA travelling to Myerscough and Itchen making the journey to Charnwood.
