City of London Academy vs Itchen College

Wednesday afternoon saw the battle for second place in the Eastern conference go all the way down to the wire with Itchen narrowly defeating CoLA 64-61.

CoLA started out the contest in determined fashion with Solomon Iluyomade scoring the first 6 points mixing up drives and jump shots. Itchen, looking leggy after playing the second game in 2 days, weathered the storm, regrouped and stemmed the flow of the potential CoLA onslaught.

Down by 4 going into the second, Itchen stifled their South London counterparts holding them to 6 points for the quarter.

“Itchen changed their defence and we completely slowed down, played too much on the outside and became passive,” said CoLA Head Coach, Sterling Muschett.

Going into the half down 4 CoLA regrouped and attacked the third with a sense of urgency having huge contributions on the defensive end from Iluyomade, Ade Adeniran and 11 points from Mayowa Mohammed.

Up 6 the fourth was set up nicely for CoLA to secure second spot, however, Itchen had other ideas.

The inside presence of Roman Farion made the CoLA players change their shots and 8 huge points from Rael Williams were the difference for Itchen as held on for the 3 point victory 64 – 61.

“Itchen came in ready yesterday and they approached the game with a playoff mentality, they fought for one another, stayed together during crucial moments and executed,” Muschett added.

“That’s all you can ask for in games like this. All credit to Itchen and good luck in the playoffs.”

CoLA were led by Mayowa Mohammed with 27 and Solomon Iluyomade with 20. Itchen were led by Rael Williams with 21 and Ashley Briggs and Sam Van Oostrum with 10 points each.
